The Power Is Now Online Radio Features Langston Hughes On The Power Is Now Literacy Lounge



Riverside, Ca. (April 22, 2012) – On Thursday, April 25th on The Power Is Now Online Radio, Monette Miles will be featuring the works and writings of literary legend Langston Hughes.

Miles, also known as “Mo Poetic” has been serving her community since 1998, by providing enrichment-spoken word and culturally-related assemblies for several school districts, community centers, faith-based and nonprofit organizations. She founded the Homestreet Publishing, an organization that provides development programs on English/language art, education and community awareness. Being the poetic person that she is, Ms. Miles established The Let’s Write Out Loud Program that encourages children to fall in love with words.

Currently, Ms. Miles proudly serves as the Peer to Peer Coordinator of The Cup of Happy Program at Operation SafeHouse in Riverside, CA. This program offers prevention efforts prior to a diagnosis for mental illness. In addition to that, she also created Safe Speech, a creative writing program that helps youth discover how to use writing as a therapeutic tool to express and gradually ease feelings of emotional trauma.

On this episode of The Power is Now Literacy Lounge, Monette Miles will discuss the life and writings of American poet, James Mercer Langston Hughes, who was a social activist, novelist, playwright and columnist. Hughes’ most famous work was written during the Harlem Renaissance when he wrote about the period that "the negro was in vogue" which he paraphrased as "when Harlem was in vogue". Host Monette Miles will also highlight Langston Hughes’ political views and how his works changed the history of the United States by fighting slavery and inequality through his writing.

JPMorgan Got Off Easy: Why The Settlement Is Not Justice

The Justice Department, along with federal and state partners, announced this week a $13 billion settlement with JPMorgan - the largest settlement with a single entity in American history.   This settlement brings to a resolution the federal and state civil claims arising out of the packaging, marketing, sale and issuance of residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) by JPMorgan, Bear Stearns and Washington Mutual prior to Jan. 1, 2009.
